چکیده

Abstract We consider the direct and inverse scattering problems for partially coated obstacles. To this end, we first use the method of integral equations of the first kind together with variational methods to solve a scattering problem for the Helmholtz equation where the scattered field satisfies mixed Dirichletimpedance boundary conditions on the Lipschitz boundary of the scatterer D. We then use the linear sampling method to solve the inverse scattering problem of determining D from a knowledge of the far-field pattern of the scattered field. Numerical examples are given showing the performance of the linear sampling method in this case.

The Electromagnetic Inverse Scattering Problem for Partially Coated Lipschitz Domains

We consider the inverse scattering problem of determining the shape of a partially coated obstacle in R 3 from a knowledge of the incident time harmonic electromagnetic plane wave and the electric far field pattern of the scattered wave. A justification is given of the linear sampling method in this case and numerical examples are provided showing the practicality of our method. 1. Introduction...

The linear sampling method for cracks

We consider the inverse scattering problem of determining the shape of an infinite cylinder having an open arc as cross section from a knowledge of the TM-polarized scattered electromagnetic field corresponding to time-harmonic incident plane waves propagating from arbitrary directions. We assume that the arc is a (possibly) partially coated perfect conductor and develop the linear sampling met...

Numerical solution of obstacle scattering problems

Some novel numerical approaches to solving direct and inverse obstacle scattering problems are presented. Scattering by finite obstacles and by periodic structures is considered. The emphasis for solving direct scattering problem is on the Modified Rayleigh Conjecture method, recently introduced and tested by the authors. This method is used numerically in scattering by finite obstacles and by ...

Reconstruction of the Shape and Surface Impedance from Acoustic Scattering Data for an Arbitrary Cylinder

The inverse scattering for an obstacle D ⊂ R2 with mixed boundary condition can be considered as a prototype for radar detection of complex obstacles with coated and noncoated parts of the boundary. We construct some indicator functions for this inverse problem using the far-field pattern directly, without the necessity of transforming the far field to the near field. Based on careful singulari...

The direct and inverse scattering problem for cracks∗

We consider the scattering of an electromagnetic time harmonic plane wave by very thin obstacles. In this lecture we will restrict ourselves to the scattering of an Epolarized electromagnetic field by a perfectly conducting infinite cylinder having an open arc in R as cross section. We further allow the possibility that one side of the cylinder is coated with a dielectric material. This leads t...
